1. Welcome from the Principal

“Welcome to Portia Primary School! We’re a proudly South African public school with a strong tradition of academic, cultural, and sporting excellence. Our newly built facilities and dedicated team ensure a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for every child.”

2. History & Infrastructure

  • Founded in 1969 on a former dairy farm and operated initially in prefabricated structures until 2014
  • As part of the ASIDI initiative, a R44 million upgrade was completed in October 2014, replacing old buildings with 23 classrooms, specialist rooms, Grade R facilities, admin block, kitchen, and a multipurpose hall

5. Academic Programs

  • Serves learners from Grade R–7 across Foundation, Intermediate, and Senior Phases
  • Offers full CAPS curriculum:
    • Foundation Phase: Home Language, First Additional Language, Maths, Life Skills, Creative Arts, Physical Education
    • Intermediate Phase (Gr 4–6): + Natural Sciences & Technology, Social Sciences
    • Senior Phase (Gr 7): + Economic Management Sciences, Life Orientation

6. Extracurricular Activities

  • Sports: Soccer, Netball, Athletics
  • Cultural & developmental: Drama, Speech, Creative Arts .

  • Approximately 708 learners supported by 25 teachers, maintaining a learner-to-teacher ratio of ~28:1

  • Actively engages parents—e.g., held a Safety Conversation in 2020 discussing road safety and pedestrian priorities .
  • Strong partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders.
